Hello lovely, I’m so happy to see you here.
I started my blog with a project called ‘100 days of happy’ in a quest to getting back my happy. By looking for the happy in the everyday little things, I enlisted a trio of helpers for my mission – gratitude, mindfulness and kindness.
With limited funds and energy, I wasn’t sure what kind of acts of kindness I could do and what kind of impact I could make, if at all. But I gave it a go and soon learned that no act of kindness is too small, and in fact, can sometimes make a bigger impact than I could have ever imagined.
My first act of kindness was attaching a kindness card I’d created to a few chocolate bars and hiding them for people to find. I wasn’t expecting the thrill I got from doing this small act: merely from the hope that it may bring a smile to the finder’s face.
Over the following months I’ve continued with my kindness acts, including hiding more kindness cards with messages, buying coffees for strangers, and even giving a bunch of flowers to a stranger.
And after hearing from some of those who’ve been on the receiving end of my kindness acts, it is one of the best and most rewarding feelings. It really is true what they say about the giver benefiting as much as the receiver
As I recently completed my 100th day of my ‘100 days of happy’ project, I can honestly say that I have found my happy again. Even though I’ve still a long way to go on my recovery journey and I still have to spend many days in bed, I know that kindness has become an essential part of my healing toolkit and makes me feel much better and much happier.
I’ve become hugely passionate about spreading kindness, so much so, it’s become a bit of a mission.
100 Acts of Kindness
My new project is ‘100 Acts of Kindness’ and is what it says on the tin!
The 100 kinds acts will be a mix of:
– Being kind to people I know: these are the kind acts I do for friends, family, and folks I already know. These are the acts we all do without really thinking about them. And on the days where we can be sometimes be too hard on ourselves, I feel it’s important to honour the kindness already within us and celebrate it.
– Being kind to strangers: these are the more daring acts of kindness I do whether they’re anonymous or, when I’m feeling well enough and brave enough, face-to-face to people I don’t know. This is the one that’s more out of my comfort zone, but are hugely rewarding.
– Being kind to myself: I’ve come to realise that being kind to ourselves is really important for our own wellbeing and I will celebrating this too.
Spreading a little kindness on Facebook
I’ve also set up a community page on Facebook called ‘Spreading a little kindness’.
It’s a place where people can share kindness stories and experiences, whether it’s doing a kindness act, or being the recipient of an act of kindness. It’s a positive place for us to share ideas and to help inspire each other to keep spreading a little kindness.
I’ve love to see you there… just imagine the ripple effect of kindness we can create by simply clicking ‘like’ or ‘share’ on a post we enjoyed. Here’s the link.
I truly believe we can make the world a better place, one kindness act at a time.
Love and hugs, Helen Xxx
